The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey manages and maintains the bridges, tunnels, bus terminals, airports, PATH and seaport that are critical to the New York City/Metropolitan region's trade and transportation capabilities. They include John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia and Teterboro airports; AirTrain JFK and AirTrain Newark; the George Washington Bridge; the Lincoln and Holland tunnels; the three bridges between Staten Island and New Jersey; the PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) rapid-transit rail system; the Port Authority-Downtown Manhattan Heliport; Port Newark; the Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal; the Howland Hook Marine Terminal on Staten Island; the Brooklyn Piers/Red Hook Container Terminal; and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan. The agency also owns the 16-acre World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan.

The Port Authority Police Department is responsible for law enforcement, aircraft rescue firefighting and emergency service/technical rescue operations on all Port Authority facilities.  All members of the Port Authority Police are given full police powers in the States of New York and New Jersey.

The Port Authority Police Benevolent Association has sponsored the creation of an Official Ice Hockey Team to represent the agency.  All members of the Port Authority Police were welcome to join, and 21 members stepped foward to play.  Currently the team is playing in the "Hot Shots" Police/Fire League at Newbridge Arena in Bellmore, Long Island, New York.  The team is available and actively looking to play in charity events and fund raisers of all types.
